Paintless dent repair (PDR) has become widely used to remove certain types of dents and dings on vehicles.

Paintless Dent Repair is a process of removing small dents without disturbing the paint finish. When successful, it is less costly and less time consuming than conventional methods of auto body repair. It is commonly used to repair damage such as hail dents, dents from baseballs, and door dings. In some cases, the dent can be completely removed. In many cases it can be 90% removed, such that it is only barely noticeable and often very acceptable. In still other cases it is not possible to remove the dent without damaging the paint finish.

Specially fabricated tools and techniques for PDR have been developed to remove dents from almost any body panel. Skilled technicians remove dents using the specialized tools to push the metal back into its original shape from behind the dent.

PDR is very effective for certain situations:

  • The paint has not been broken or cracked
  • The dent is not near the edge of a panel
  • Parking Lot Dings and Dents
  • Hail Damage

Several advantages to using paintless dent repair  include:

  • No repainting or body filler needed
  • Quicker turn around time
  • Less expensive than traditional auto body repair

PDR is available from local franchises of national chains, independent shops and some auto body repair shops. The quality of the PDR depends greatly on the skill level of the technician performing the repair.  It is a good idea to have the work done at a reputable shop.  Schaefer Autobody Centers, an independent collision repair shop with six locations in the St. Louis, MO Metro area performs PDR.
